Colorado Passes Bill Making Armenian Genocide Education Mandatory For High School
June 10, 2020 The Colorado State Senate unanimously passed HB20-1336, which requires Holocaust & Armenian Genocide education as a condition for High School graduation in public schools in Colorado. (House Bill 1336 – Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Public Schools), per the Armenian National Committee – Western Region. The bill was sponsored by Representative Dafna Michaelson Jenet, Representative Emily Sirota, Senator Steve Fenberg, and Senator Dennis Hisey, as well as “honorary Armenian” lawmakers Representative Daneya Esgar, HD 46 and Senator Dominick Moreno. The ANCA-WR thanked them for “championing this bill and making sure that our community was included in the process from the very beginning.” The ANCA-WR thanked their partners, the Coalition against Global Genocide and Jewish Colorado for working hand in hand with ANCA Colorado to make the cause of genocide education a reality. Along with the ADL – Anti-Defamation League, for making sure that the State of Colorado has the funds to implement the law. 
Turkey’s First Armenian Museum Opens in its Last Armenian Village
June 7, 2020 Turkey’s sole remaining Armenian village will be home to an Armenian museum. Musaler is the name of the cultural institution, which opened in Vakifli, a rural community in Hatay province, NTV reports. In an interview with the TV channel, Cem Chapa, the chairman of the board of trustees of the Armenian Apostolic Church, said the museum exhibits are a reminiscent of not only the Armenian culture but also of all the nations that once resided or still reside on the territory of Anatolia. Chapar said he and his wife, a journalist by profession, have carried out tremendous work to compile the collection by bringing artifacts to Vakifli. He added that most of the samples include items collected from the local residents. Chapar compared the museum to a theater featuring the culture, the everyday life and the language of the different peoples in the region. He also thanked the provincial governor and other officials for assistance and contribution. No official opening was held due to the epidemiological situation linked to the coronavirus pandemic, but the museum will open its doors after the end of the lockdown measures. The museum will display historical items, ornaments, as well as big cauldrons in which the residents of Musaler cooked their traditional meal, Harisa. 
City Of Irvine Declares April 24th Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day - May 22, 2020
The City of Irvine has declared April 24th, 2020 as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day thanks to the efforts of Mayor Christina Shea, Irvine City Council, and ANCA Orange County Chapter. ANCA-OC has been in frequent communication with the city of Irvine addressing the needs of the Armenian-American community, including the importance of annual commemoration and condemnation of denial of this international crime against humanity. Mayor Christina Shea has always been available to listen and meet with the ANCA-OC Board and community members to address those needs and issues. Armenian Genocide Education Awards

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Senate struck a historic blow today against Turkey’s century-long obstruction of justice for the Armenian Genocide, unanimously adopting S.Res.150, an Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA)-backed measure that locks in ongoing U.S. recognition of this crime.
The resolution, identical to a measure (H.Res.296) adopted 405 to 11 in the U.S. House in October, officially rejects Turkey’s denials of its genocide against Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Syriacs, Arameans, Maronites, and other Christian nations. Passage of the resolution – spearheaded by Senators Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) – marks the first time that the Senate has recognized the Armenian Genocide.
“The Senate today joined the House in rejecting Ankara’s gag-rule against honest American remembrance of the Armenian Genocide – overriding the largest, longest foreign veto over the U.S. Congress in American history,” said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. “Today’s unanimous Senate action shines a spotlight on the President, who continues – against all reason – to enforce Erdogan’s veto against honest American remembrance of Turkey’s extermination and exile of millions of Christians. It’s time for the Executive Branch to join Congress in ending any and all American complicity in Ankara’s lies. Together, the President and Congress should put in place a sustained and pro-active policy that rejects Turkey’s lies, challenges Ankara’s obstruction of justice, and works with Armenian and Turkish stakeholders toward the international reparations and other remedies required of this crime.”
The Armenian Genocide Resolution (S.Res.150) establishes, as a matter of U.S. policy, 1) the rejection of Armenian Genocide denial, 2) ongoing official U.S. government recognition and remembrance of this crime, and 3) support for education about the Armenian Genocide in order to help prevent modern-day atrocities.
