Ahmed Riza Bey
(1859–1930)
An early opposition leader in the Ottoman Empire and the first president of the Ottoman Chamber of Deputies.
Ahmet Riza had opposed the Temporary Law of Deportation because he claimed the bill was unconstitutional since it was never voted on and was never approved by the Ottoman parliament.
Rize submitted a draft bill which called for the suspension of the deportations until after the war and proposed to provide security for the deportees. The bill, however, was never passed.
Nevertheless, the arguments and issues exposed by Riza showed that no member of parliament was informed about the deportation bill. Riza expressed his objections to the Temporary Law on Abandoned Goods bill in a session in parliament on a November 30, 1915.
